Can My Child Access the HAF Programme?

The Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme is designed to support families during the school holidays. This simple guide will help you understand if your child is eligible.

Who Can Access HAF?

Your child can usually access the HAF programme if they:

Are aged Reception to Year 11
Attend a school in your local area
Receive benefits-related free school meals (FSM)

If your child meets the above criteria, they will normally be eligible for a free HAF place.

What Are Benefits-Related Free School Meals?

Free school meals are typically available if you receive certain benefits, such as:

Universal Credit (with a qualifying income)
Income Support
Jobseeker’s Allowance (income-based)
Employment and Support Allowance (income-related)
Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act

If you’re unsure, your child’s school or local council can confirm your eligibility.

What If My Child Isn’t Eligible?

As a HAF provider we offer:

Paid places. Paid places are available at a reduced rate of £5 to support wider access and allow children to attend alongside their friends.
Limited discretionary spaces for families who may still need support

We recommend contacting us directly to discuss your situation—we’ll always try to help where we can.

How Do I Apply?

In most cases:

You will receive a code or booking link from your child’s school or your local council
Use this to book your child’s place with an approved HAF provider
Choose the dates and activities that suit your family
